Keto diets are low in carbohydrates and high in fats, designed to train your body into using fat for energy rather than carbs as fuel source. As it has become popular over time, keto has overtaken paleo diet as the go-to eating plan of choice and now even stores are selling items that cater specifically to keto dieters.
Diets like the Mediterranean Diet can be extremely useful in managing epilepsy and losing weight; additionally, it can provide tremendous health benefits for those not involved in active careers like sports.
Unfortunately, most fast food joints don’t provide food rich in the keto diet. You can still manage selective food preferences to stay on track with your keto plan and maintain the lifestyle that works for you. Below are a few options you should keep in mind the next time you visit a fast-food joint.
1. Low-Carb Drinks
Looking for a quick fix while driving home? Forget about selecting food to substitute; instead grab one of many keto drinks – water is most obvious but we also offer lemonades, soda water, coffee, and tea as options!
Coffee and tea are carb-free beverages; Vivarin reports that caffeine may also have many other health benefits for staying alert on a busy day. Cream in beverages contains gluten, which has high carb concentration. Still, don’t let that stop you from enjoying your coffee as desired; half-half serving will still give approximately 0.5 grams. Alternatively, request healthier gluten options like soy milk.
If you opt for lemonade, make sure it is unsweetened or uses natural sweeteners; I found Chick-fil-A’s lemonade delightful and enjoyed its natural sweeteners! Additionally, unsweetened tea and iced coffee may also be options you should consider.
Avoid drinking soda because it contains high levels of carbs and sugar – two things to be wary of when following a keto diet. Instead, choose water, coffee, tea or lemonade from an organic supplier instead; otherwise a soda machine provides lemonade which contains mostly corn syrup that may compromise your efforts.
2. Healthy Salads
To stay satisfied for longer, choose salads rich in vegetables and proteins such as grilled chicken, Tacos, Salmon or avocado-shrimp salads. Aiming for this kind of diet is surefire way of feeling satisfied for longer!
Fast food joints offer meals that can replace low-carb diets, such as Antipasto salad from Burger King. The salad contains about 10g of healthy carbohydrates from various meats, olives, cheese and vegetables. If you want an alternative to fast food and are seeking meal delivery services that specialize in this specialty such as MealFan.com is worth looking at.
3. Bacon, Sausage and Eggs
You can enjoy these products in salad or breakfast dishes; their low-carb content helps curb appetite. They’re typically offered at fast-food restaurants; however it’s wise not to become dependent on this diet since processed meats may lead to heart diseases and complications.
4. McDonald’s Sandwich and Burgers
McDonald’s is an ever-delicious source of fast food. Their Quarter Pounder, Big Mac and Sausage McMuffin burgers are legendary; as are their delicious Sausage McMuffins! Maintaining low carb diet while enjoying such tasty fast foods may seem challenging but you can avoid bread or buns for a low-carb breakfast option!
My goal at McDonald’s was to eventually stick with a keto diet. Though they offered low-carb burgers, their unpleasant flavor discouraged me so instead I ordered two sausage McMuffins without bread for approximately 4 grams of carbs each meal.
5. In-N-Out Burgers
In-N-Out offers an affordable keto menu, and is an excellent place to order a burger. Try ordering their protein burger with lettuce as a bun replacement, or two patties covered in gooey cheese!
6. KFC Chicken
When talking about fast foods, no list would be complete without including grilled chicken as the endpoint. These items are most people’s go-to choice since they keep you full for long. Instead of opting for fried versions instead, grilling can offer multiple advantages; firstly because oils used to fry it aren’t necessarily healthy while secondly it only contains about 10grams of carbs while one fried meal typically possesses around 100.
